Anxiety Support for Children in Berkshire
Helping Children Feel Calmer, More Confident and Better Able to Cope
Many children experience anxiety at some point in their lives. For some, it may show up as worries about school, friendships, tests, or being away from parents. For others, anxiety can appear in less obvious ways such as emotional outbursts, tummy aches, sleep difficulties, sensory sensitivities, low confidence, perfectionism, or avoiding situations that feel overwhelming.
At Quester Therapies in Yattendon (Near Newbury), Berkshire, I take a whole-person approach to supporting anxious children. Rather than simply managing symptoms, I look at what may be contributing to a child's anxiety and how we can help their nervous system become calmer, more resilient, and better able to cope with everyday challenges.
Anxiety Can Look Different in Every Child
Not all anxious children appear worried.
Some become withdrawn and quiet.
Others become angry, emotional, controlling, or highly sensitive.
You may notice:
-
School anxiety or school refusal
-
Separation anxiety
-
Emotional outbursts or meltdowns
-
Difficulty sleeping
-
Low self-esteem
-
Sensory sensitivities
-
Perfectionism
-
Difficulty concentrating
-
Excessive worrying
-
Tummy aches or headaches with no clear medical explanation
-
Challenges with friendships
-
Avoidance of new situations
Many parents tell me they feel there is "something deeper going on" but they cannot quite put their finger on it.
Looking Beyond the Symptoms
Children's anxiety is often viewed purely as an emotional issue. However, in my experience, anxiety can sometimes be influenced by underlying factors affecting the brain, body, and nervous system.
Using kinesiology and neurodevelopmental assessments, I explore whether factors such as the following may be contributing:
-
Retained primitive reflexes, including the Moro Reflex
-
Nutritional deficiencies
-
Stress on the nervous system
-
Sensory processing challenges
-
Difficulties with eye tracking and visual processing
-
Gut health imbalances
-
Emotional stressors
-
Fatigue and low energy production within the body
Every child is different, which is why I believe it is important to look at the bigger picture rather than assuming the same approach will work for everyone.
The Role of the Moro Reflex in Anxiety
One of the most common patterns I see in anxious children is a retained Moro Reflex.
The Moro Reflex is often called the body's "fight, flight, or freeze" reflex. It is designed to help babies respond to sudden changes in their environment. Ideally, it should integrate during infancy.
When it remains active beyond infancy, children can become highly sensitive to stress and stimulation. They may:
-
Be easily startled
-
Struggle with change
-
Feel overwhelmed in busy environments
-
Experience heightened anxiety
-
Be emotionally reactive
-
Have difficulty regulating their emotions
-
Find it hard to switch off and relax
Many parents notice significant improvements in confidence, emotional regulation, and resilience as retained reflexes begin to integrate.
How I Support Anxious Children
At Quester Therapies, support is tailored to each child.
Depending on your child's needs, this may include:
-
Kinesiology assessments
-
Primitive reflex integration programmes
-
Neurodevelopmental screening
-
Nutritional and wellbeing support
-
Practical strategies to support emotional resilience
-
Recommendations for home-based activities and exercises
My aim is to help children feel more comfortable in their own bodies, more confident in themselves, and better equipped to navigate the challenges of daily life.
Supporting Children Across Berkshire and Beyond
My clinic is based in the beautiful village of Yattendon, near Newbury in Berkshire. I work with children of all ages who may be struggling with anxiety, emotional regulation, sensory sensitivities, learning challenges, ADHD, dyslexia, or low confidence.
Parents often seek support because they want answers and a deeper understanding of why their child is struggling - not simply another label.
Together, we can explore what may be contributing to your child's difficulties and create a personalised plan to support their wellbeing.

Creating a resilient 'Mind for the Future'
"Before working with AnneMarie, our daughter was struggling with anxiety on a daily basis. Mornings were difficult, she worried constantly about school, and even small changes could leave her feeling overwhelmed. What we appreciated most was that AnneMarie looked beyond the anxiety itself and helped us understand what might be contributing to it. As the sessions progressed, we noticed our daughter becoming calmer, more confident, and better able to cope with situations that would previously have caused distress. She is now much happier, more resilient, and enjoying life again. We are so grateful for the support and insight we received."
– Parent of a 9-year-old girl, Berkshire
